About

A Poem From Us is a website featuring regular people, reciting their favorite poems. Our goal is simple: use technology to help folks share their love of poetry with others. The project is currently open to the public, and we’re looking for video submissions.

Interested in participating? Here’s how:

1Become a contributor! Start by recording a video of yourself reading a favorite poem. Then, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and submit the video to us! Once we’ve reviewed it, we’ll feature your video on the website.

2Become a distributor! You can request a set of project stickers, which we’ll send to you for free. Each sticker features the project logo and a custom QR code. When a passer-by scans the QR code with their mobile device, a random poem from the project will be played.

As more users contribute videos to the site, different poems will be featured. The stickers serve as a kind of “Found Poem” for the digital age – an offline QR code being updated by online code.

3Of course, there’s nothing saying you can’t be both a contributor and distributor. We’d love to see your video, and we’d also be happy sending you a set of stickers.

A Poem From Us has been generously funded by Awesome Foundation Chicago – an organization that offers $1,000 microgrants to individuals, helping them realize awesome projects. We’re incredibly honored to have been awarded one of the 2011 grants, and hope to do them proud.

The Awesome Foundation is compromised of numerous chapters, all over the world. Grants are given out monthly, year round. You should consider applying.

The logo for A Poem From Us was designed by the uber-talented Justin Siddons. The project stickers were created by the fine folks at Sticker Mule.

A Poem From Us is a project maintained by Felix Jung. He lives in Chicago with his wife Liz and their two rabbits: Baxter and Professor Snugglesworth. In his spare time Felix runs avoision.com, a personal blog he’s been updating every day since June, 2002.
